As I have been reporting to you, the runway needs to close again until October 20, 2018 so the contractor can finish work and give us our night, visual runway back again.
At 7:30 pm Monday, September 17, 2018 Runway 8/26 is closed, along with TWY A from A3 to A4 and TWY A1.
I plan to keep both TWY B and C open for access to Runway 14/32. But, CAUTION when taxiing across 8/26 for men and equipment working. I also plan to work with the Army Guard to restore a taxi route to/from their hangar along TWY A and the end of RWY 8.
On Wednesday, September 19 we plan to repaint TWY A centerline if conditions – wind and temps – meet our requirements. This means you will have to taxi south of the centerline around the paint truck. Don’t taxi over fresh paint for at least 10-15 minutes, but this should be a pretty quick process.
The main work left is installing all the lights and signs with power and painting to nighttime standards.
AIR RACE CLEAN-UP
The ramp is not quite back to “normal” yet. There are still some tents, barrels, a few race planes and barriers. However, it appears you may taxi to/from hangars with CAUTION for people and equipment continuing to work. Remember, many of the contractors taking Air Race stuff down are not familiar with aircraft ops. I urge you to recon your taxi route before jumping in the plane and seeing it for the first time. The no prop turn line is lifted Tuesday morning.
Another caution is there is still some FOD from the clean-up on the ramps. Your Stead staff will probably be in a sweeper for a bit tomorrow addressing taxilanes.
Thanks for your patience during Air Races this year. In just a few more days things should be normal. Heck, we even had a SEAT land here at 1145 and stage at the tanker base already!
Last thing…please restore your own areas if you put campers/RV’s or such out around your hangars to fully open up the taxilanes again.
WATCH FOR…
We need to get into the runway intersection for painting. This will mean a temporary displacement of the 32 threshold to the north or constraining the ops like we did back in March and April. This should only be for a day or three later this week.
I have an indication that one of our local drone companies might want to fly on Wednesday. If so, I plan to put them on TWY C north of Home Pylon for an hour or two.
As always share this out. Let me know if there are questions. And, congrats to all the RTS tenants who got out and raced…our staff really enjoyed the show!!
