Stead AWOS is Back in Operation

I want to let you know that our AWOS met all annual certification standards last week during the annual FAA inspection and service.  Particularly with the winds we have here and when there is winter weather, I know how we all rely on AWOS accuracy (but, as you know the wind at the AWOS may not be the same as at your runway end…see windsock).  Not to mention our ability to put up local info when you need to know something.

I want to give a shout out to our staff who maintain and keep the records for the AWOS.   Specifically, Tony Miranda who leads the monthly checks and services, and Dani Austin-Cox who tracks the records.  It’s a team effort, but these two have lead and deserve some thanks.

A reminder when you phone into the AWOS.  After you listen to the AWOS and hang up the phone, it takes the system up to a bit of time to reset.  If you are like me sometimes and you get distracted while listening on the phone, and then feel the need to redial right away to double check, you can get a busy signal while the system resets.  If you do get a busy signal, try and give it about 3 minutes before you call back because repetitive calls mess up the reset process.
