Runway, Ramp & Taxiway Inspections – and Closures

Manger's Corner header 2020

Good morning everyone,

The airport has contracted with a pavement evaluation firm to inspect the condition of all ramps, runways, taxiways, and roadways at Stead Airport.  The results of this survey will be a condition report with recommended maintenance and upkeep plans including priorities and timelines for budgeting the suggested preventative treatments and repairs.

These inspections include two types of survey; the first is physically walking and recording all conditions with GPS devices, the second is pulling a nondestructive testing trailer over all surfaces to “radar” the pavement and base underneath to get a better idea of what conditions cannot be seen.  The plan is for this work to start next Monday (May 2) and depending on weather conditions, complete all inspections in 5 to 7 days.  The typical workday and runway closure hours will be 0700-1700.

For your planning and awareness here is the preliminary schedule for next week:

Monday May2:  Ramps (including hangar row taxilanes) and roads (walking inspection)

Tuesday May 3:  RWY 8/26 closed for walking inspections – TWY A inspection

Wednesday May 4:  RWY 14/32 closed for walking inspections – TWY B inspection

Thursday May 5:  RWY 14/32 closed for nondestructive testing – TWY B inspection

Friday May 6:  RWY 8/26 closed for nondestructive testing – TWY A inspection

The inspection team will also be inserting the inspections of TWY C and D as they can in their schedule.  They may also be out for a night or two of inspections to make up for any schedule time loss.  Please monitor the AWOS and notams for up-to-date closure information and keep an eye out for them next week!  The inspection teams and vehicles will be monitoring the CTAF and while on ramps and taxiways they will pull back and give way to all aircraft.

If you have any questions about any of this, please give me a call at 775-328-6573 or you can also call Mario at 775-225-7987.  Thank you.

Have a great weekend!

Scott
