Ramp Construction Begins
Monday, July 12, 2021

On Monday, July 12 construction starts on the ramp in front of Aviation Classics, the terminal, and control tower.  Lemmon Drive from the 395 exit to Military Road will also start construction.  While I think that the ramp work will have some impact, we will be a bit more frustrated by the construction on Lemmon Drive because of the congestion it will cause.  You may consider using Stead Blvd to get back and forth to 395.

What you will see Monday at the airport.

There will be a drone flight over the construction area and all the way to TWY A between 7:00 am – 9:00 am Monday morning.  It will be a quad copter with white strobe at no higher than 150’ AGL.  The pilot will give way to aircraft taxiing on A or the ramp.  The drone is conducting a topographic survey of the construction area.

Aircraft that are parked between the ramp fence and fuel island will be re-located by Aviation Classics.

Granite Construction, the contractor, will be setting up barriers around the construction area.

Parking in front of the terminal and vehicle traffic will be blocked off.  Park at base of tower or in our landside parking lot.  Use Texas Ave outside the gate to get over to BLM or our maintenance area.

Construction traffic will be crossing our entry road from the gate behind the control tower to the ramp gate in front of the terminal.  Please use caution entering and exiting the airport.

Access to the fuel island is from the north side only.  Taxi parallel to the tank and park with your wing abeam the hose module.  Use caution.

Please share far and wide if you can.  I will have a couple of notes on AWOS to help visiting aircraft find transient support, so be patient when you tune AWOS.  This construction should be completed before the Air Races.  After Air Races, we will start on the area north of this one to include TWY A.

Let me know your questions, ideas, or concerns.
