2019 Pylon Racing School Update

Air Race Activity June 1 – June 9, 2019, Initial short-and-sweet Bulletin

Share liberally…forward to people who can use this for their planning.

Every year at the beginning of June we get a fair bit busier so pilots can practice for Air Races.  Right now, there will be 101 race airplanes showing up at RTS and beginning their training around June 1.

The Race TFR will be in effect from June 5 – 8 and, during those days, we will have restrictions for aircraft that are not participants.  The airport is closed to transient traffic during the TFR and tenants will have 3 x 10 minute windows each day during the TFR to depart/arrive with a 24-hour PPR.

On the ground, airport property is closed from June 4 – June 9 to ALL vehicle traffic north of the hangars.  Gates will be locked and there will be surveillance.

Before the TFR goes into effect from June 1 – 4, the Sport Class and Jet Class will be doing formation training away from RTS, but will be launching and recovering here as flights.  There are no restrictions during these days, but multiple groups of aircraft are moving around the airport and the traffic patterns.

For our neighboring airports and flight instructors, please ask your pilots to avoid using RTS for training or visits from June 1 – 8, 2019.

For our on-airport tenants, please share this with your staff.

In my next Update to this Tenant bulletin I will provide details on NOTAMs, timing, communications and hazards associated with the 2019 Pylon Racing Seminar.  Please share this with our community thru your own emails and websites as needed so everyone can begin to plan appropriately.  Watch for my next email and let me know if there are questions.
