June 2012 Lincoln Regional Aviation Assn UPDATE

Greetings, Fellow Aviation Enthusiasts!

Although summer is still officially a few weeks away, aviators are already in full swing engaging in a multitude of activities and events. Your LRAA will be providing several programs during the summer and, to assure their success, your help is requested. Make 2012 the year you get involved with your Association. Contribute a few hours each month and help promote General Aviation to the community. It’s fun. Really!

Not sure how to volunteer or what to do? Here are two “immediate” opportunities to serve your fellow aviators in the coming month:
June 8, 9, 10: Three 3-hours shifts staffing the LRAA/CalPilots Information Booth at the Golden West Fly In. Time slots of 8-11, 11-2. and 2-5 on each of the three days of the event are available. As explained at the LRAA Annual Meeting, we’re only on the hook for one day (other chapters are to help cover the other days) but its never a bad thing to have our own representatives on site as much as we can! It is also possible that you may be scheduled in the booth with a representative from another Chapter. Consider it an excellent opportunity to learn how GA is being promoted in different areas of the state and bring those ideas back to us!
June 16: Ground-based guides and escorts during the Young Eagles flight event. Volunteer for the whole time period (8-12) … if you’re displaying an aircraft it needs to be there for 4 hours anyway; might as well spend that time helping promote GA to the kids and their accompanying adults (the people that pay taxes to keep the airport operating!).
If you can help with either of these events, please contact me as soon as possible to assure we can meet our commitments. (Corl Leach: 916-276-5216 or corl.leach@lraa.aero)

Looking ahead through the summer, put these LRAA sponsored events on your calendar:
Saturday, July 21, 2012: Lincoln Aircraft Display Day. 8:00 am to 12:00 noon @ LHM. Cookout for the Airport Community begins at 11:00 am.

Saturday, August 18, 2012: LRAA’s 1st and Last Aerial Poker Run and Lincoln Aircraft Display Day @ LHM. Join with neighboring aviation organizations for a day of fun, flying, and food culminating in a BBQ at LHM. (More information to follow including list of participating airports, ante price, and menu for the cookout that will follow at LHM.)

Saturday, September 15, 2012: Lincoln Regional Airport’s “Harder 100” Celebration and Lincoln Aircraft Display Day @ LHM. Come celebrate the 100th birthday of the Lincoln Regional Airport’s namesake, Karl Harder. This event intends to serve as a pseudo airport “open house” as well in order to provide the citizens of Lincoln with a better understanding of the purpose and benefits a local General Aviation airport provides to its community. Many people will be required to help produce this event so start warming up your “volunteer” enthusiasm. (Look for additional information and opportunities to become involved!)
I’ll cut this message off here so you’ll have it going into the weekend. There are several other topics of importance to pass along but I’ll send those in the next few days. Oh, for your information, the bill in the Assembly that was to impose sales taxes on personal services such as flight instruction, aircraft mechanic labor, etc. has been rescinded for the time being. We’ll continue to monitor the legislature and inform you as soon as we know!

Looks like a nice but warm weekend to take to the skies! I hope to see you in the pattern!
