UPDATED June 6
Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 7 Pylon Racing Seminar flights will begin. This will restrict airport use by non-participating aircraft.
A TFR will be in effect for the flying day. Times vary each day, but generally 8:00 am – 5:30 pm.
A temporary tower will be in operation during the flying day.
There will be specific arrival/departure slot times for non-participating aircraft.
Transient aircraft will require a PPR. Call 775-328-6570.
These procedures are in effect until Saturday, June 10 at 5:30 pm local time.
I have attached a ‘kneeboard’ card for non-participating aircraft to use. It has the times and procedures for both tenants and transients to use when flying during PRS. I hope you will review it, and, have it on your smart device or print for use.
Please send this email to other tenants or transients you know who might want to use the slot times listed. If you are an aviation group or business, please share with your members/customer/clients and post on your website if you can. Copies are available in the Stead Airport offices.
Tenants should have received a mailing from the airport with an explanatory letter three weeks ago, and you should have another mailing with a kneeboard card today. NOTAMs and the TFR have been posted. Please check them, too.
While we cannot eliminate all the constraints this event creates, we are all interested in making it as seamless and safe as we can for all of us. Thank you so much for your attention and cooperation. And, thanks for supporting one of the great aviation events in our country.
UPDATED June 1
The Reno Air Racing Association hosts the annual Pylon Racing Seminar from Wednesday, June 7 thru Saturday, June 10, 2017. As you know, this event constrains normal airport operations. Stead tenants should have received a letter via US Mail around May 12th from RARA and RTAA outlining how RTS will be constrained. This Tenant Bulletin provides amplified details and also shares information with neighboring airports.
A TFR will be in place around RTS during the following times and airport property gates will be locked to prevent public access including Kart Track and adjacent property owners (a picture of the TFR is in the attached PDF version of this bulletin):
Wed, 7 Jun 0945-1730
Thur, 8 Jun 0800-1800
Fri, 9 Jun 0800-1700
Sat, 10 Jun 0800-1800
SFC – 10,500 MSL
The current PRS schedule is shown below.
During PRS hours of operations, a No-Prop/Jet Turn Line will be in effect West of the Grandstands. The double white and red line running west to east and then curving to the south, west of the Grand Stands defines this line. No engines/props can be turning south and west of that line, except for aircraft entering/departing the Alpha Ave hangars via the easternmost taxilane.
The airport requires a 24 hour PPR for transient use during PRS; FULL STOP or departure only. Tenant use is facilitated during certain “windows” without PPR listed below:

The Home Pylon and Pylon 1 will be erected on Monday, June 5. Expect a similar NOTAM:

UPDATED May 31
In advance of the Reno Air Racing Association’s annual Pylon Racing Seminar, the Sport and Jet classes begin their formation training out of the Reno-Stead Airport on Friday, June 2 thru Tuesday, June 6, 2017. This activity is organized by Bob Mills and Jeff Turney, both local pilots involved with the Sport and Jet classes, respectively, but it is not sponsored by RARA.
The attachment provides you a depiction of the groups’ plans for this training. As you can see, the aircraft will be departing the area for outlying formation boxes, then returning after their flights. It is their intention to impact as little as possible on the normal flow of traffic.
There will be a lot of additional aircraft parking and moving on the ramps for this activity.
Please share this information locally with others in our community since there will be a bit of a bump in traffic density here during formation arrivals and departures.
I will be sending out separate information about the Pylon Racing Seminar in the next couple of days.
